Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a rapidly growing field because of its exceptional efficacy and the speed of treatment.  All light based methods of hair reduction (laser or intense pulsed light) rely on the principal of selective photo-thermolysis in which the laser energy passes through the skin and is absorbed in the hair follicle by the pigmented hair and associated pigmented structures.

The absorbed light is converted to heat.  This heat is responsible for inducing damage in the hair follicle and thereby stoping hair production.  Light energy has its greatest effect on actively growing hairs (anagen hair follicles) and less effect on dormant hairs (telogen hairs).  This difference is due to the amount of pigmentation found in the hair follicle.  Active hairs have enough pigment in the follicle to generate sufficient heat to disable growth.

Resting hairs do not have enough pigment to generate sufficient heat.  Since there are always resting hairs in every treatment area (and they can not be removed while resting), multiple treatments are necessary to destroy additional hairs as they enter the growth phase.  Usually, five treatments are best for satisfactory long lasting results.  Depending on the patient's desires, additional touchups may be useful over time.

We utilize Candela's GentleYag laser for hair removal in dark skin individuals and Candela's GentleLase for hair removal in lighter skin individuals.  These lasers allow us to treat patients of all skin colors including tanned skin.

Like all light based hair removal, we can not remove white or blond hair as this hair does not absorb enough of the light energy.  Our lasers are the most powerful and versatile on the market today.  Their combined cost is about $170,000 and they are quite reliable.

They are  also the only lasers with an integrated cryogen cooling system that keeps the superficial layers of the skin cool before each laser pulse.  This cooling allows the use of higher and more effective light levels and reduces patient discomfort (we also use topical anesthetic cream for added patient comfort).

We offer a free consultation with our doctor to discuss your hair removal needs.  We also strive to offer the most affordable pricing for hair removal in our area
